I was born in NYC in 1951 with the name Angelo. For many years I worked first as an security officer and later as a Private Investigator and Body Guard. Eventually I started my own security business and also ran a gun shop which was also know as Big Papa's.
In 2001, I met a lovely lady and wanted to make my home with her, her children and grandchildren and the Adirondacks. It was hard to adjust without Chinese food delivery, but the quiet and fishing made up for that.
Retirement wasn't good for me and I really loved fishing with my grandson. So it made sense to make a business with something I enjoyed. So I started Big Papa's Tackle Shop and More to keep myself busy and also to put me in a position to make sure all kids had a chance to fish. It's Big Papa's mission to GET KIDS FISHING.
I like supporting community groups that help kids and often give donations.
I started out repairing used rods and making my own and later branched out to bows and arrows. I now have a big selection of fishing, archery, ice fishing and hunting supplies and the best price around on big, fat night crawlers.
My health isn't great - I'm still fighting the battle with cancer - and my shop has helped me through some tough times. I've moved my shop inside our house so I can continue to serve my customers when my health is poor.
